Your Choice of Hue On A Suit

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

How do men make their mind as which shade suit to go in for when they have no idea about what appeals to most? Suits mainly come in three major shades: Black, Dark Grey and Dark Blue.

Generally, Black suits are believed to be reserved for wear in either church or at the office. The truth, though, is that it can be very trendy and fashionable in a social environment when combined with the right shirt.

Dark Grey is most suited for business owing to its commanding look. A shirt of any shade will compliment this suit.

Dark (Navy) Blue tends to be a bit “average”. You will blend-in with the crowd in a Navy Blue suit, something you may, or may not wish to do. That said, it’s safe to wear for virtually any occasion. If you are fair skinned you will need to wear a darker colored shirt.

Other Colors. Brown has rarely been considered a suitable color suit for the business world. Men’s suits in brown are usually reserved for social wear along with tweed jackets etc.

White can look fantastic in the correct setting or occasion (think Tom Hanks in the movie “Big”). However, the words “correct setting or occasion” cannot be emphasized enough, so think carefully. As such, purchasing a white suit somewhat limits it’s usefulness.

Lighter Grey suits are best worn in warmer climates or in the summertime. Looks great with almost any pastel shirt, unless you are reasonably fair skinned, in which case something slightly bolder should be considered.

Obviously, there are a number of factors one must consider when determining what color of suit will best suit their needs. Ask yourself questions: “When will I be wearing the suit? Is it mainly for business, or will it be worn casually”? Take note of your dimensions and your complexion, and whether the color will draw attention or go unnoticed.

No matter what color of suit you choose, always make sure you’re comfortable in your decision. Bring someone along with you in order to get honest feedback while you try suits on - good feedback will ensure you choose something right for you and makes you feel great. Whenever I went to buy a great suit I brought my wife with me. If she really liked it, I knew it was the right choice. Take it into consideration. It’s a great place to start.
